The demarcation work of roads connecting the border in Nellong valley of Uttarkashi district has almost been completed. This will take lesser time for the vehicles to reach the check posts.
The exercise of improving the roads on the Chinese border in Uttarakhand has been intensified. In this order, the work of demarcating the roads connecting the border in the Nellong valley of strategically sensitive Uttarkashi district has almost been completed. It includes contact routes to the check posts of ITBP. Not only this, the construction of six bridges on the Jahanwi river has also been completed. This will take lesser time for the vehicles to reach the check posts.
There are seven passes in the Nellong valley, 125 kilometers away from Uttarkashi district headquarter. There are nine surveillance checkposts of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force near these points situated on the border. By the year 2013, there was a road to Naga Chowki in Nellong Valley from Uttarkashi. In this also, the road from Bhairav valley to Naga Chowki was rugged.
Army and ITBP personnel used to measure pedestrian distance from 20 to 40 kilometers to reach other check posts from Naga check post. The other option was only helicopter. In the year 2014, the central government focused on road construction in the area. It got accelerated after June 2017 and reached the road till last chowki Sumala, Mendi, Blue water, PDA, Tripani, Sonam and Moghun.
Despite the fact that the road to the hitchhiking road on its raw road was not only exhausting, it was also time consuming. In April 2018, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) started the demarcation work of roads. BRO Commander Sunil Srivastava said that the work of submersion with the support of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is almost complete. Now, there is still the demarcation of about 15 km road between Bharavghati and Nellang. It will also be completed soon.
